Do Everything – Song Of The Week

I had already had a song in mind for this week’s blog, but this morning I heard this song and it hit me right where I needed it. I’ve heard this song many times and it had even inspired me to read the scriptures in God’s word that talk about doing everything for His glory. For about a month, I read those scriptures daily. I wanted it ingrained in my everyday life. I wanted it rooted so deep in my heart and mind as I lived my life. This morning I was quite frustrated and my house was driving me crazy. I was at the point where I thought, “Why does it matter? As soon as I get it clean, someone will spill something. There will be crumbs. The toys will be drug out all over the place. This is driving me mad!”

And there it was…..the first few lines of the song. I quickly realized that the scriptures I thought I had ingrained within me weren’t surfacing when I needed them, too. Why? Because in that moment, my flesh was stronger than my spirit. I asked for forgiveness and remembered that no matter how I feel or how many times I have to do something, I MUST do it all for Jesus, not only for my well-being, but also as a Godly example to my children. I am so grateful that God remembered me (even when I forgot Him) and reminded me that it’s all about Him.

“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”- Colossians 3:17

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,”- Colossians 3:23

Do Everything
By Steven Curtis Chapman

You’re picking up toys on the living room floor for the 15th time today
Matching up socks
Sweeping up lost cheerios that got away
You put a baby on your hip
Color on your lips and head out the door
While I may not know you, I bet I know you
Wonder sometimes, does it matter at all?
Well let me remind you, it all matters just as long

Chorus
As you do everything you do to the glory of the One who made you,
Cause he made you,
To do Every little thing that you do To bring a smile to His face
Tell the story of grace With every move that you make
And every little thing you do

Maybe your that guy with the suit and tie
Maybe your shirt says your name
You may be hooking up mergers, Cooking up burgers
But at the end of the day
Little stuff, Big stuff, In between stuff
God sees it all the same
While I may not know you, I bet I know you
Wonder sometimes, does it matter at all?
Well let me remind you, it all matters just as long

Chorus

Maybe your sitting in math class
Or maybe on a mission in the Congo
Or maybe your working at the office
Singing along with the radio
Maybe your dining at a 5-star
Or feeding orphans in the Myanmar
Anywhere and everywhere that you are
Whatever you do It all matters
So do what you do
Don’t ever forget
