Hiding Him In Little Hearts – Verse 6

Hiding Him In Little Hearts – Verse 6

Colossians 3:20
“Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.”

We have obviously been working on this week’s verse for a while. The girls learned it quickly and didn’t have a hard time, but I ended up having to teach a class for our kids at church this week, and chose to base my lesson on this verse. I wanted to wait until I had finished that lesson before I posted my blog.

I have enjoyed working on this verse with the girls. First of all, it truly blesses my heart to hear my 2 1/2 year old and 4 year old quoting scripture. Second of all, this particular verse is an excellent example of how important it is to apply God’s word to your home life. Not only is it important, but it is also affective. We are using it daily in our home and outside of the home. The girls have learned that obeying your parents is the right thing to do, and it is also pleasing to the Lord. It pleases our Father when we do what is right according to His word.

I did an online search to find some crafts/coloring pages to share with the kids. I had a hard time finding coloring pages specific to this verse, but I came across a butterfly. I then remembered learning that butterflies mean “blessings,” and since we get blessings when we obey, the kids were given a coloring sheet with a few butterflies to color. I just did a Google Images search for butterflies and chose a few of my favorite to create a coloring page.

I also came across a neat idea for an Obey O-Meter. After reading about it here (http://www.daniellesplace.com/html/bible_themes_o_-_p.html ), we made our own version of an Obey o-Meter and my girls really love it. The kids got to make their own, but I also made one for both of my girls together and placed it in our hallway. Naomi is trying her best to make sure her arrow stays as close to the happy face as possible! (I’ve included the templates I made for our version if you’d like to have an Obey O-Meter of your own. Look at the bottom of this post, under my name.) After we colored the arrows and cut them out, we taped them to paper clips that went on the side of our paper, that way the arrow could easily be moved up and down.

Along with their Obey O-Meters and Blessing Reminders (aka…butterflies), I sent the kids home with a bookmark featuring this week’s verse. I was so excited when I found these at Lifeway and couldn’t wait to pass them out after the lesson. I hope the kids enjoyed learning this scripture as much as I enjoyed teaching it.
