Well, let me tell you… I went up that mountain looking to receive something from the Lord and THAT I did. More than I ever imagined! I haven’t had an experience like that in years! My only regret: I didn’t take any photos. What was I thinking? I know Diania did, though… Maybe she’ll share? If we beg? Pretty please with a cherry on top?
We arrived Friday afternoon, got all settled in our cabins, and quickly went to our first service on Friday evening. The ladies of our church all rallied together to set up our common area in no time, which made me so proud to say I’m a part of this church family. When they set out to get something done, it gets DONE!
Our theme was “The Wizard of Oz” and it was perfect. Our speaker, Alisha Howard, did a fantastic job of bringing the word of God to our group. She is, in my opinion, the “ultimate women’s speaker”. We had 4 services total, one lasting from Saturday morning until about the middle of that afternoon. The Holy Spirit was not only there, He had a strong presence! The move of God that took place cannot even be explained. Everyone was free to leave if need be, but many stayed seeking what the Lord had to give them.
Time was spent with friends, also. Giggling, chatting, planning, and sharing what God is doing. Nothing compares to great fellowship with our sisters in Christ.
I took so much away from this weekend. I wish every woman could experience something like this. If the opportunity presents itself, please treat yourself to a weekend with the Lord and friends. If it doesn’t present itself, go out and find it. I really recommend it that highly.
I’ve heard a few people state over the years that they don’t understand the point of a Ladies Retreat. Some said it was an excuse to get away. Others that it was just “play time” and not truly spiritual. A few times I’ve heard “It’s nothing that I can’t find spiritually at home or at church on Sunday.”
While it is true, it is not necessary and that some might not “need” this time of interaction, I believe there is no harm in attending a retreat or conference without your husband/children to distract you. No nagging worry over what needs to be done around the house. No rush to leave once the service is over to get to the long list of errands that need to be done… Just time with God and others who are looking for bonding time with Him also.
Over the years, I’ve come to realize that there is something “different” about getting away for the sole purpose to be completely focused on the Lord. Something happens spiritually, a connection, that doesn’t seem to happen in day to day life. A refreshing of the soul, a closer bond, and the added benefit of time with “the girls”.
There are always going to be those who disagree, and there will always be reasons that keep some from attending now and then… But overall, the time spent with my Savior in a fellowship hall filled with women who are also seeking for His presence. Nothing can beat it.
I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone. The next time your church or an organization you admire holds one of these functions: ATTEND! You will NOT regret it. God really moves, you really are blessed, and everything at home will be waiting for you when you get back.
