Emily’s Nuggets: A Nibble Of Encouragement – Extra Support

I haven’t done a nugget in a long time, but the thing about nuggets is that they don’t have to be an all the time thing. Nuggets are sweet little God drops that hit your spirit for such a time as this. I like to share my nuggets with you all because the other thing about nuggets is most of the time, they are just what someone is needing to hear.

As I was driving the other day I saw a newly planted tree. It wasn’t yet big or strong enough to support itself so it had stakes around it with strings wrapped around the trunk for extra support. Eventually the tree will grow stronger, it’s trunk will be thicker, and it will be able to weather any wind or storm that comes along all on its own.

I realized that newly planted Christians are the same way. These brothers and sisters in Christ are fresh and weak and most of the time can’t stand on their own. For the first little while, they will need extra support and strength from older, wiser, “been there/done that” men and women of God. With the prayers and guidance from “tough, sturdy, mighty oaks,” new Christians will begin to flourish and thrive. Then they’ll be able to turn around and do the same thing —– offer extra support to yet another fresh “tree” in the kingdom.

Extra Support - We should be helping each other stand instead of tearing each other down. - Raising Sticky Hands To Heaven

If you’re a little bit of a weaker Christian needing to become established and firmly planted, surround yourself with Godly saints who not only talk the talk, but also walk the walk. And if you’ve been there, done that and bought the t-shirt, then step up and be an encourager to those who are young in the Lord.

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

Psalm 1:1-3

The Tree

As you decorate the Christmas tree
With ornaments of love
Memories your children made
Ceramic ginger breads hang above

Does it ever cross your mind
What your tree really means
Can you close your eyes
And imagine Jesus on the scene

A baby boy receiving
Gifts from all around
While animals and shepherds
Stand upon the ground

A king born to deliver
The world from all of it’s sin
A gift no other man
Would ever give again

Born not only to die again
But for you and me to live
You could shop forever
And not find a better gift to give

We get a little crazy
Around this time of year
The meaning of this day
Just seems to disappear

If we take time to remember
Why we decorate the tree
Then Christmas Day would be
The greatest gift for you and me
