Do you have goals? Dreams? I’m gonna go ahead and guess that if you answered no, then you lied. 😉 God has chosen goals and dreams for you, as well. And if you truly love Him, your goals/dreams match up with His. They translate into what is your destiny….your purpose. That’s right, our lives are purposed.
In our everyday lives, we have a tendency to operate in a Negative Nelly attitude. We want what we want when we want it and refuse to accept any other option. And when we know that we know God’s plans for us, we get an even uglier attitude as we hear the word ‘wait.’ It’s like we’ve taken the role as an actor in the J. G. Wentworth commercials, screaming at God, “IT’S MY DREAM AND I WANT IT TO MANIFEST NOW!”
I know we’ve all been there. Yes, I tend to write from experience. Still waiting for the soul mate God is preparing just for you? Yep. So in the mean time you plan to help Him out by joining internet dating sites. Called to be a Sunday School teacher, but it’s not your time yet? Yep. So impatiently you huff away from the church you’re in to rush into a position at another church. Or maybe you have a special gift or calling, but right now, your job is to scrub the toilets. Instead of gracefully scrubbing, you scrub with a spiteful attitude muttering things like, “I don’t know why I have to keep doing this while Sis. So-n-so gets to be in the choir. I sing better than her anyway.”
There are many other scenarios that we all usually handle the same way….we know what we want and the Negative Nelly in us can’t help but murmur and complain about the wait. Did you ever stop to think that your negative attitude is hindering your purpose? Maybe Sis. So-n-so has done her time scrubbing toilets and did so joyfully, anticipating the better things she knew were in store. Maybe Mr. Right is ready and patiently waiting for you, but your attitude is standing in the way. Often times we even barge into something too early and operate prematurely, getting in over our heads.
Yes, we may know what God’s purpose is for us, but we ought to have a positive attitude at all times. Even when we are having to scrub toilets, even when we’ve been waiting and waiting and it’s time to hurry up and wait some more—whatever the case, we must keep a positive attitude. Our attitudes should reflect the loving God who called us to our purpose in the first place. Even when it’s not happening according to our timing.
I’ll leave you with this— attitudes are contagious. Are you spreading around a good one or a bad one? Negative Nellies pull down those around them, draining themselves and others of joy and strength. Positive Pollies lift up and encourage people, dancing in puddles and looking for the rainbows in the midst of the storm. As Christians, we must choose to remain positive and purposed at all times. Who knows? Our destiny may be right around the corner.
I absolutely love my husband, but as a wife, I know I could do better. I could be a better chef. I could be a better listener. I could be a better mother. I could be a better encourager. I could be a better friend. I could be a better housekeeper.
My “I could be a better…” list goes on and on. It has plagued me for some time. It’s not that I don’t want to do better. I really do. Any time it comes up in my mind, I just sort of push it back out. I guess that’s because I do want to be better, but I don’t feel like I really am able to be better. I tend to look at this woman or that woman and compare myself and come to the conclusion that I am not good enough. She is much better at raising her children. She is wonderful at keeping her husband happy. Why can’t I keep my house perfect like her? My house looks like savages live in it. When I begin to compare myself to the perfect women I know, I allow myself to give up.
It’s only Day 3 of the 31 Day Challenge, and these awesome bloggers are stepping on my toes. When I finish reading each challenge, all I can say is “Ouch!” For me, it really is a challenge. But it makes me WANT to be everything I can for my husband. It makes me WANT to do better and be better. I am thankful for being able to participate in the 31 Day Challenge and pray that I’m able to step up to the plate.
If you haven’t checked it out yet, be sure to check out the 31 Day Challenge at http://time-warp-wife.blogspot.com/ And if you are participating in the challenge, be sure to let us know how it’s going for you.
Once upon a time I cooked. A lot.
Then I became pregnant with my 5th child. For about 1 year now my poor husband has been running our kitchen. He works all day and then comes home and makes dinner most nights.
I hate it.
Don’t get me wrong, the man can seriously cook. I mean really well too. Some of the best food I’ve ever had! But it’s supposed to be MY job, and I really miss that.
Now that my baby is nearly 4 months old, I’ve been able to take the kitchen back little by little. One way I’ve been doing this is no surprise to those who know me well. My Crock Pot! (Okay, Crock Pots. I have 2…) I can throw dinner in and go on to play with the kids and teach their lessons and maybe even clean a little while dinner prepares itself. Then after, the clean up is simple!
Today I have pork chops covered in cream of mushroom soup and ketchup cooking. I know, sounded disgusting to me too, but I caved and made it another time and it wasn’t bad! Kinda good, actually!
Given that I’m homeschooling and dealing with an infant, I need to rely on my Crock Pot at least 1 or 2 days a week. I’m so happy that it has become trendy again, because now recipes are easier to find! I love making soups, roasts, pasta dishes, dressing, casseroles, meats, taco meat etc… There can never be too many Crock Pot recipes!
So what about you? What is your favorite dish for the slow cooker? Do you have a favorite book or website for recipes? Let’s share!
You know how it is. You spend every single day in a rush. You’re doing your best to keep on top of the kids, the house, the errands, the meals, Bible reading, the finances, work, etc. Your husband is exhausted from a long week at work himself, especially if he has a high demanding job like all the ladies here at Raising Sticky Hands To Heaven do. The last thing you think you can possibly find time for is a date night, right? I mean, sure, you have time for you know what here and there, but I mean a real date night.
“But I don’t have a sitter for the kids, and we don’t have the money to go out! And even then we can’t hear each other in the restaurant or we just sit at the movies and stare at a screen, how are we supposed to connect?!”
I’ll tell you how. Have a date night at home. Yes, you read that right. At home.
My husband and I began doing this a few years ago. We feed the kids their dinner at the usual time, put them to bed, and then we have date night. We have a quiet dinner alone, mostly uninterrupted, and then we plan something for the remainder of the night.
Sound like a lot of work? I promise it isn’t. It’s usually a group effort, which makes it fun. We’re working together to aim towards something we will both benefit from! Sure, it takes a little bit of sacrificing. For instance, we usually stay up almost all night when we have date night, meaning it’s a LONG day the next day. But we both agree that it is worth it.
So how exactly do we plan this out? Well, it’s different every time. Usually one of us makes dinner and the other one plans an activity. By activity, I mean something creative and fun. Occasionally we will have a “theme”. (Oh, and the activity is kept secret from the other one usually… unless we just have a night of music and talking. Then we’re upfront.) One night I brought in Scrabble and set the rule that the words could only have something to do with our relationship. Another night he set up our living room to feel like we were in a cabin in the mountains. We’ve had “casino night” and “truth or dare”. Once I even planned a beach night! It goes on and on… The key is to keep it light, fun, and flexible. You never know when one of the kids might wake up, so be cautious of that also.
I can’t take all the credit for this, I did get the idea from a book/kit that we purchased. I’ll post some links at the bottom of this post for you to check them out, but I wanted to still give you some ideas just in case you couldn’t afford to buy the products… (Though if you can, I seriously recommend them. Yeah, some of the idea cards are a little cheesy… but they’ll help you come up with your own ideas and the questionnaires will help you get to know each other better.)
So, if you and your hubster are in a rut, bored, or everything is great but you just think this sounds fun, go for it! And if you want, come back and tell us what ideas you had! (Keep the personal details to yourself, please. 😉 ) And remember, having a date night with your husband does NOT make you a bad mother. It makes you a good one! (And for the single mommies, you’re all still excellent moms. I hope you find no offense in this post.)
Lets start this by saying this week has been one whirlwind of events. The sickness in our church has taken a toll on me. Saying I have been discouraged is an understatement. So I decided it was time to get specific with my prayer, this was no time for sissy prayers.
I let God in on what my heart has been feeling, stating to him that I need to see the hand of God move. After months of praying up against brick walls and seeing nothing happen , it was time for hitting the knees and telling Him I need more. One can only endure so much, and that was where I was.
I don’t believe I was alone in my feelings. For the last couple years we have seen more sickness, the most some have endured in a lifetime. To say the least we have been attacked by the enemy, and it was time to take back what he has stolen from us. I can definitely say when Dean was, frustration filled me to the core. Standing back with sissy prayers was not going to be acceptable. What we needed was a team of serious prayer warriors standing in the gap for a brother in Christ, and that’s exactly what we got.
I love the living testimony of people walking by seeing where we put our trust. In our Lord and savior, the only true physician who could heal beyond what any man could do. I pray those people know where real healings come from.
I never doubt what my God can do, I may get discouraged but He is still in the healing business, and that is what I stand on. Promises of a God that cannot lie, and will not lie. I know for a fact that Dean is on his way to a full recovery. Tonite I sat in his chair and asked God to restore him back to a wholeness of wellness. In the name of Jesus I prayed for every illness Dean has, from allergies to back pain. Get ready Dean your gonna be better then ever, like I said,
You will arise and go forth, in the name of the Lord of host, for he has conquered every foe by his name, by his name, I will declare he is the Lord I will trust and not be afraid I will arise and go forth by his name…………….
I put my faith in God, he came thru once again. Amen……………..I love you Lord, and again I give you the praise…..

A few months later, things started to change
The girl sat at home and the boy acted strange
Days went by when he wasn’t around
She began to wonder if it was new love he had found
The girl decided it’s time to get out
Then she learned what families are about
Soon she won’t be home all alone
In a few months, she’ll bring a new member home
She told the boy, she thought he’d be glad
He just started screaming, she knew he was mad
She won’t give up now, she decided to stay
If it was to work, she’d find a way
All he talked about was having a son
And he wanted to prove it to everyone
A year has passed since the new baby came
But this one didn’t get daddy’s name
Still running around and out having fun
This time she decided, we are done
She left him a letter with his ring beside it
It’s over this time, I’m not going to hide it
She thought of her mother, how she’d like to go home
But mother had told her you’re now on your own
Her friends couldn’t help her, they had their own life
And now she was sorry she became a wife
Tears started falling, she tried not to cry
She thought of the boy, how could he lie
She went back home and found her man
There he sit with the ring in his hand
He started to kiss her, he thought she was gone
He told her he loved her and where she belonged
With life back in order and a home full of joy
The family will welcome their new little boy
Temptation and trust must fill the heart
Without the two, they’ll be torn apart
Love is something that needs to grow
Both husband and wife play a big role
“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade…”
What does this mean exactly? Basically, to take something sour & bitter and turn it into something sweet. A negative into a positive. As Christians, we deal with this on a different level as we are to spread God’s love to a dying world.
In every day situations, this may be easy to do. But what about when the unthinkable happens? Something so traumatic, that finding the pros is completely impossible when there are so many cons lined up against you? It becomes difficult to find the good with the bad, and to show love and be positive to others when we feel so full of hurt/anger/sadness and negativity.
I’ll be the first to say, this is not my favorite subject to write about. It has taken me a long time to learn this lesson myself. But when God says “write”, by golly, you better write.
So, from here we will begin a Tuesday series. I hope you’ll follow along and read what the Lord has told me to write and be blessed.
I know that I am blessed beyond measure! If you think about it, you are too. Think about the people around the world. We are a very blessed nation. Most do not take the time to see how blessed we really are.
If you have any change at all in your pocket, you are richer than 93% of the WORLD! We are stuck in the ‘woe is me’ mentality. Mostly because we don’t have what we WANT instead of what we NEED. There are major differences between our wants and our needs. Our wants do not keep our children fed. Our wants are basically to keep up with the Jones anyway. To try to make good impressions on other women or people in general.
When you think about it, if you have most of what you want, are you really happy? Does it fulfill your spiritual needs? Are you pleasing God? Think about your life. Think about how blessed you really are. God woke you up this morning!
I ask myself all the time, “Who am I that God cares so much for me?” He sent His only Son to die for MY sins! He gave me a wonderful husband that I love dearly and I know without a doubt that he loves me also. God blessed me with 4 beautiful children, who are talented, anointed, funny, and I love them beyond measure. We have a roof over our head that we have made into a home. We have food on our table. Not only do we feed our children, we have the opportunity to feed other children, physically and spiritually.
I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God loves me and has blessed me. Who am I to deserve such as this?
Could you imagine living in the days before air condition was invented? I know that there are several people today, that still do not use it, but I could not go without it for long. We are not in the dead heat of summer at the moment, like we were earlier in the season, and our temps have been reasonably warm. Thank God for that, because our central unit is totally out! Therefore, it got me thinking about the heat.
Could you imagine the “odor” that must have permitted the air? Body odor, ‘bathroom’ odors, spoiled food, among other things. There was no ‘coolness’ to take a break in. No wonder swooning is in movies that are set back in the day.
Being hot makes me ill and cranky! I don’t want anyone touching me, and wear only enough clothes to be decent. My hair MUST be off of my face. All of the box fans are in place. The kids are whining because they are hot. Momma is whining because she is hot. There is a whole new meaning to “murmuring and complaining”! If anyone has any doubts about how hot hell is, it’s gonna be a WHOLE LOT HOTTER than this, so don’t set on going!
On the other hand, we are soooo very blessed! We have a home! We have food! We have GOD! We have each other! We have LOVE! We have no doubt that God is going to make a way. He said “every need supplied!”
Psalms 37:25 says, “I have been young, now am old, yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor His seed begging bread”!!
We’ve all been there. Had a need, want, or wish that we prayed for fervently. Begging God to just let this one thing go our way. Only to find that God didn’t agree, and just flat out said “NO!”
Naturally, sometimes as humans we become upset. We don’t understand WHY God would ever not grant us the wishes of our heart. “Doesn’t God want me to be happy?” we ask, assuming that God couldn’t possibly know our side of it.
As difficult as it can be, the key to remember is that God is all knowing. He sees the big picture, not just the here and now like we see it. Of course he wants the best for us! But just as our children think cookies make a good meal, we know better. He doesn’t want us to settle for less.
When I was young, and I mean YOUNG, there was something I prayed for. I could NOT understand why God was not giving me what I wanted. Surely He knew the dream I had from the time I was a tot, why wouldn’t He just give it to me? I’ll tell you why: because it was not His will. He had something so much better in store for me. I didn’t understand it at the time, but boy do I now! And let me just say Thank You LORD for not giving in to my stupidity! 😉
It does not always go this way. Sometimes the reason our prayers go unanswered is not clear. It is not for us to know while we are here on earth, but as the old song says “We’ll understand it better by and by…” In the mean time, thank our Heavenly Father for loving us enough to say “no” instead of spoiling us. For were it not for the “nos”, we wouldn’t be thankful when He says, “YES!”
