I’ve heard a few people state over the years that they don’t understand the point of a Ladies Retreat. Some said it was an excuse to get away. Others that it was just “play time” and not truly spiritual. A few times I’ve heard “It’s nothing that I can’t find spiritually at home or at church on Sunday.”
While it is true, it is not necessary and that some might not “need” this time of interaction, I believe there is no harm in attending a retreat or conference without your husband/children to distract you. No nagging worry over what needs to be done around the house. No rush to leave once the service is over to get to the long list of errands that need to be done… Just time with God and others who are looking for bonding time with Him also.
Over the years, I’ve come to realize that there is something “different” about getting away for the sole purpose to be completely focused on the Lord. Something happens spiritually, a connection, that doesn’t seem to happen in day to day life. A refreshing of the soul, a closer bond, and the added benefit of time with “the girls”.
There are always going to be those who disagree, and there will always be reasons that keep some from attending now and then… But overall, the time spent with my Savior in a fellowship hall filled with women who are also seeking for His presence. Nothing can beat it.
I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone. The next time your church or an organization you admire holds one of these functions: ATTEND! You will NOT regret it. God really moves, you really are blessed, and everything at home will be waiting for you when you get back.
P.S. I’m attending a retreat this weekend. I can’t wait to share my experience with you all when I get back!
