A Morning Devotion: Thirsting for Him

A Morning Devotion: Thirsting for Him

A Morning Devotion: Thirsting for Him

“When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst, I the LORD will answer them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them.” –Isaiah 41:7 (ESV)

Have you ever felt thirsty?

Have you ever needed to drink from the spring of living water?

If so, read on!

I woke up this morning very thirsty. I had a bout of cotton mouth, and it felt really uncomfortable to talk. I was also very hungry as I had hunger pains radiating from my stomach. Needless to say, I rose from my slumber this morning VERY uncomfortable. Almost immediately, I went to the Kitchen. Then, I picked up an apple because it was easily accessible. I took a bite and….I almost choked on my apple!! While my apple was full of water and nourishing for my body, I needed to quench my thirst before I could be nourished.

I think that we as Christians face this predicament every single day. We think that we can dig into our “soul food” without first being quenched by the Holy Spirit. We think that we should just dive into a feast without first drinking “spiritual milk” (1 Peter 2:2). We think that we can expand our portion without first experiencing the labor pains of growth. Then, in our impatience…we choke. In our humanity, we don’t realize that God gives us what we need when we need it, and that there is a natural order to our thirst for Him. Instead, we walk through our lives choking on our apple without fully encountering the spring of “Living Water” that flows abundantly (John 4:11).

“Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” –John 4:14 (ESV)

As the Bible states, the water that He gives us to quench our thirst is a spring of “Living Water.” That means that it is constantly flowing. Our thirst is not only quenched, but We are CONSUMED by Him. We are constantly being renewed. We are constantly being transformed. But, We are to be quenched by Jesus Christ and nothing else will do.

I didn’t realized that healing my brokenness had nothing to do with me, but had everything to do with allowing His Living Water to flow freely.

I think in my life, I had to learn to surrender myself in Worship and saturate my life with God’s truth before I was ever fully quenched by Living Water. I didn’t realize the intricate exchange between my spirit, and the Holy Spirit. I didn’t realize how important it was to NEED God to quench my thirst instead of trying to fill my life with stagnant water that couldn’t satisfy my thirst. I didn’t realized that healing my brokenness had nothing to do with me, but had everything to do with allowing His Living Water to flow freely. Still, there are often times when I thirst for Him so bad that it hurts. From time to time, I still try to bite into my proverbial apple before I have been quenched by the Spirit. I bite down at other times when it’s not God’s appointed season for me to do so. Yes, even though I have walked with the Lord for many years…from time to time, I still choke. Still, in my impatience, He calms me. Then during that season, He quenches my thirst so that I can fully experience Him.

Have you ever experienced a thirst that could only be quenched by God himself? If so, comment below! 🙂

My prayer for you today:

My dear Sister, it is my prayer that you fully experience the Spirit in a way that has you Thirsting  for Him each and every moment. However, it is also my prayer that you are filled with His Spirit and have your thirst quenched with Living Water when you are walking through this crazy journey that we call life!

In His Love,
